Artist Nick Dunkenstein (who created my logo and avatar) is from Jacksonville, Florida and a vocal goth. She has experienced feeling distraught for the longest time, but has found renewed hope in politician Angie Nixon, who hails from Jacksonville. Angie has been a powerhouse fighting for LGBTQ+ rights amongst other important issues. To raise awareness, Nick created this important piece of artwork.
“I’ve wanted to do something for a long time, but I haven’t known what to do. As just one person whose voice isn’t loud and doesn’t command a presence that others find serious, it feels difficult for me to do anything. But I tried for weeks, and as simple as it is, I made a drawing. I remember a while back, years ago, there were “Goths for Bernie” shirts to support Bernie Sanders, and I loved the designs for them. That inspired me to make something special for those of us who don’t have much pink, if any pink at all, in our closets. For us to share and yell our support for Angie Nixon. She’s running to represent Florida, and she’s woken up a part of me that sort of shut down in ‘25. I really believe in her, and I think others should too. She’s fighting for the people, she’s putting herself out there, and since I live in the city where she’s from, well, that’s even more reason to get loud about being in her corner.”

Florida was ranked earlier this year as the least safe state for LGBTQ+ folx. But politician Angie Nixon has been fighting for positive change.
She has spoken out against attacks on the LGBTQ+ community and has opposed bills linked to restrictions on gender affirming care, drag performances, and regulations on access for transgender folx in public spaces. Angie has also been supportive and vocal about concerns for LGBTQ+ youth safety, inclusion in sports, and bullying.
Her advocacy is focused on civil rights and intersectionality, and she refuses to be silenced. Bringing renewed hope to a state that has experienced a lot of harmful setbacks. We are fully supportive of Angie and the work she is doing to support our community.
