This year, I was given the opportunity to present at the Ann Radcliffe Academic Conference in conjunction with StokerCon for my study on Leatherface, titled Gender, Sexuality, and the Queer Experience as Demonstrated Through Leatherface.
Leatherface is my favorite horror icon for a number of reasons. Many of which I touch on in my presentation (my full paper analysis will be available soon).
He is an unintended queer icon, presents with characteristics of developmental disabilities, and receives a lot of pressure to participate in the family business. Living in a very rural area where he has little to no interaction with the outside world largely shaped his worldview, and his view of himself and his purpose.
I am excited to share my presentation with you, and I hope that it opens your eyes to some of the facets of Leatherface that aren’t often discussed enough!
Enjoy,
